Private investigators in Vietnam: Woman accused of evading taxes on US$7.6 million rubber latex business.
Police in Da Nang have arrested and placed Hoang Thi Ly, 42, in pre-trial detention as part of an investigation into alleged tax evasion.
According to investigators, from 2020 to the present, Ly purchased rubber latex from farmers in Phuoc Tra and Hiep Duc communes before reselling it to buyers for profit.
Authorities estimate that the trading operation generated total revenue of approximately VND 200 billion (about US$7.6 million).
Investigators allege that, despite operating the business for several years and generating substantial revenue, Ly never registered the business, declared its income, or fulfilled her tax obligations as required under Vietnamese law.
Authorities said the alleged violations caused an estimated VND 2.5 billion (about US$95,000) in lost tax revenue.
Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, police concluded there were sufficient grounds to prosecute Ly for tax evasion.
Da Nang Police have formally launched criminal proceedings, filed charges against the suspect, and ordered her detention for three months while investigators continue to examine the case and collect additional evidence.
