Vietnamese Couple Charged Over 15,000 Fake Designer T-Shirts

Ho Chi Minh city, Ho Chi Minh private detectives – A Vietnamese couple has been charged with producing nearly 15,000 counterfeit T-shirts bearing the trademarks of major fashion brands, including Lacoste, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Balenciaga and Gap.

On July 3, Ho Chi Minh City police charged Nguyen Duc Dao and his wife, Phan Thi Ha Ly, with infringing industrial property rights.

The case was uncovered during a nationwide crackdown on counterfeit goods and intellectual property violations.

Investigators said the couple sourced materials from multiple suppliers and outsourced sewing, logo embroidery and label attachment to different workshops.

The finished products were then assembled, packaged and prepared for sale at a location under their control.

In late May, police inspected a business registered under Ly’s name and seized nearly 10,000 counterfeit T-shirts, along with fake labels and equipment used in the operation.

Based on Dao’s statements, officers intercepted another shipment containing more than 4,000 counterfeit shirts and found hundreds more at a contract workshop.

In total, authorities confiscated nearly 15,000 fake T-shirts bearing 11 trademarks protected in Vietnam.

The seized goods are estimated to be worth billions of Vietnamese dong. The investigation is continuing.
