Ho Chi Minh City Restaurant Owner Jailed for Prostitution

Ho Chi Minh City Restaurant Owner Jailed for Organizing Prostitution Brokerage. A restaurant owner in Ho Chi Minh City has been sentenced to two years in prison for organizing prostitution brokerage activities to attract customers and increase revenue.

On September 8, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Court sentenced Huang Wei Hao, 39, a Chinese national, to two years in prison for Prostitution Brokerage.

Hao’s wife, Le Thi Diem, also received a two-year sentence. As she had previously been sentenced to three years and three months in prison in another case, her total sentence is five years and three months. Two other accomplices were sentenced to 18 months in prison.

According to case records, Hao Man Restaurant on Ngo Gia Tu Street, in the former District 10 area, began operating in May 2024 and mainly served foreign customers. Hao managed the restaurant, while Diem and several others oversaw different departments.

From around March 2025, the couple allowed female employees to leave the restaurant with customers for prostitution in an effort to attract more customers and increase revenue. Customers could choose female attendants while dining or singing karaoke and later negotiate prices directly.

The restaurant allegedly used several measures to avoid detection. Female employees were not allowed to leave the premises at the same time as customers, were required to use exit passes, and Telegram groups used to manage employees regularly had their messages deleted.

In the early hours of June 27, 2025, police inspected a hotel on Su Van Hanh Street and discovered a female employee from the restaurant engaged in prostitution with a South Korean customer. The restaurant was also inspected at the same time.

At trial, the defendants admitted their involvement and asked for reduced sentences.

During the investigation, Hao said he had given more than VND 1.1 billion to Luu Trong Hanh, a former police officer in the former District 10, hoping to receive assistance with his business operations. Hanh was sentenced to seven years in prison for Fraudulent Appropriation of Property.

Hao also claimed that he had given money to a person who introduced himself as an official from a cultural management authority in exchange for assistance with the restaurant’s operations. That matter remains under investigation.
